So, The Forest is gently ticking along – if you haven’t bought it yet go and do so here -

and currently, this is pretty much what my days look like…

Getting dressed around a classical music laser rave

7.36am Woken by youngest daughter’s expert moaning, drag self out of bed and try to get clean clothes on everybody.

Boy Wonder's not as miserable as he looks...

7.58am Breakfast – porridge, Shreddies, Cheerios – all in one bowl, in some cases.

Not actually today...

8.45am My turn to be parent helper at playgroup – but it was so busy there wasn’t actually time to take a picture, so this one’s from the Easter Egg Hunt a few weeks ago…

Cheese on toast & sausage rolls...

12.23pm Lunchtime

Self Explanatory

1.49pm Clear up cheese on toast/porridge carnage

Nap Time. Awesome.

2.02pm Time for a nap – eldest daughter also asleep, but lying on her face and so not making a great photo opportunity.

Lost in TV

2.03pm Boy Wonder enjoying CITV’s finest programming

Tidy Up?

While he’s doing that, I consider doing this…

Tea Revives You

….but resolve to do this instead.

Playmobil battles

3.09pm Boy Wonder & I get involved in some serious Playmobil warfare, featuring Swan Knight, Unicorn Knight, Dragon Knight, Green Knight & Crusader. We don’t go in for fancy character names.

Rain

4.20pm The girls are awake and the heavens open. They don’t like the sound the rain makes on the conservatory roof, so want to be picked up – simultaenously, of course. My biceps are pretty good.

Rainy day play!

As a distraction, we get the pop up tent out, and this works well for a little while.

Time for tea

5.22pm Time to eat again – everyone eats all their peas and so gets pudding, hooray!

Bathtime with Grandma

6.21pm Joyfully, Grandma pops rounds and takes over bathtime for a bit, while the boy and I play Kinect downstairs. Pretending to be Mr Incredible makes your calves ache, you know.

Daddy, yay! Bedtime, boo!

6.52pm Pops is home, and it’s time for bed.

: This is not what I want to be doing right now.

7.56pm Forgot to book a delivery slot for the food shopping, so have to go do it now. Beats doing it tomorrow morning with the girls in tow.

: Best Tea Time

8.43pm This is more like it…

10.45pm Suddenly and without warning, it’s late and I’m off to bed. And not a jot of writing done. Still, I’ve been pretty busy, right?

Well you little treasures, you should feel very proud of yourselves… £93 raised so far, enough for 2 family emergency kits, or 3 safe home birth kits, or 2 hygiene kits, or a fantastic 46 five-day pneumonia treatments. Bloomin’ well done!

The Forest is a fantasy, but everyday, everywhere, children are facing monsters in reality. Death, hunger, loneliness, fear, abuse – these demons stalk the real world for too many. All proceeds from the sale of this book will go to Save The Children, one of the many charities that are working to slay the dragons, cook the witches, and chase away the darkness.

We’re lucky. We get to shut the book.

Self Publishing Awards

I’ve just discovered Chapter One Promotions’ Self Published Book Award, which I will of course be entering with The Forest…as long as it’s finished by Feb 28th 2013. (It will be!) Had a quick trawl of t’interweb for other self-publishing competitions, but the only ones I could find seemed to be in America – anyone heard of any UK ones?

Nope, it’s not an imaginative post title, I’ll grant you that. But it is what I sincerely wish for us all, myself included. And while it’s true that I had hoped that The Forest would be ready as a little Christmas gifty, the delayed arrival will just make 2012 all the more exceptional…

So hurray for the new year ahead!
